15 Years of Safer, Smarter Mobility

Transport challenges look different around the world. In rapidly growing cities, the priority may be to develop public transport systems that can keep pace with increasing demand. Elsewhere, the focus may be on modernising ageing infrastructure or improving road safety.

While these challenges vary, addressing them requires more than technical solutions. Effective transport systems depend on sound policies, strong institutional frameworks, sustainable financing, and the capacity to translate strategies into practical improvements.

Over the past 15 years, MC Mobility Consultants has supported transport and mobility development in 67 countries worldwide. From national road safety strategies in Asia to sustainable urban mobility planning in Europe and the digital transformation of freight transport across the European Union, the company’s work reflects the diversity and growing complexity of today’s mobility challenges.

As MC Mobility Consultants marks its 15th anniversary in October 2026, its portfolio of more than 320 projects illustrates not only the company’s international development, but also how the transport sector itself has evolved – and the increasingly important role of international expertise, cooperation, and innovative approaches in shaping its future.

From 2011 to Today: The Evolution of MC Mobility Consultants

Founded in Austria in 2011, MC Mobility Consultants began as a specialised transport consultancy with an ambition to solve complex mobility challenges. Over the following years, the company gradually expanded its geographical reach, areas of expertise, and international partnerships, taking on assignments across Europe, Central Asia, and beyond.

An important milestone in this development was the establishment of MC Baltics in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2023. The new subsidiary strengthened the company’s expertise in transport research and innovation, road safety, mobility planning, and traffic modeling, while expanding its presence in the Nordic region and wider European market.

Today, MC operates through four offices in Austria, Lithuania, Serbia, and the Kyrgyz Republic, bringing together an international team of specialists working across three core business areas: General Consulting, Research & Innovation, and Mobility Assessment & Modeling.

These areas bring together complementary capabilities. General Consulting supports public authorities, international financing institutions, and transport organisations in developing transport policies and strategies, strengthening institutional and regulatory frameworks, preparing infrastructure investments, and addressing environmental, social, and climate-related challenges.

Research & Innovation advances new approaches to mobility through international research programmes and EU-funded projects. Its activities include research coordination, digital transport solutions, pilot demonstrations, and the application of emerging technologies.

Mobility Assessment & Modeling provides technical analysis to support evidence-based transport planning and investment decisions. Its expertise covers traffic data collection, traffic modeling and forecasting, sustainable urban mobility planning, and road safety audits.

Together, these capabilities allow MC to address transport challenges from strategic policy development and investment preparation to technical analysis, innovation, and implementation support.

“When we founded MC in 2011, we had a clear vision: to bring together expertise, experience, and fresh perspectives to tackle complex challenges in transport and mobility. Fifteen years later, our journey has taken us far beyond what we initially envisioned  – across borders, cultures, and some of the most demanding transport projects.

What started as a small consultancy has evolved into an international network of experts and trusted partnerships, built on shared values, mutual respect, and a commitment to making a difference. Much has changed over the years, but our guiding principle remains the same: combining international expertise with practical thinking to deliver solutions that create lasting value for our clients and the communities they serve,“ – Holger Eiletz, Managing Partner.

Industry Change Over 15 Years

Over the past 15 years, the transport sector, like any other industry, has undergone significant changes. Infrastructure development and maintenance remain essential, but the focus has broadened. Today, greater attention is given to transport safety, sustainability, accessibility, institutional performance, and the ability of transport systems to adapt to environmental, economic, and societal challenges.

At the same time, the requirements for planning and implementing transport investments have become increasingly complex. Technical feasibility alone is no longer sufficient. Successful projects must also consider environmental and social impacts, climate risks, financing requirements, institutional capacity, and long-term operational sustainability.

MC’s expertise has evolved alongside these changes, with growing capabilities in research, digitalisation, mobility assessment, and modeling.

“Over the past 15 years, transport consulting has evolved far beyond traditional infrastructure planning. Today, successful transport investments require not only sound technical solutions, but also effective institutions, appropriate regulatory frameworks, environmental and social responsibility, and long-term resilience.

At MC, we combine international experience with an understanding of local challenges to help our clients develop practical, sustainable solutions – from shaping transport policies and preparing investments to supporting institutional reforms and implementation,“ – Sabine Stumpf-Langer, Partner & General Consulting Stream Lead.

By bringing together expertise from different disciplines, MC supports clients in addressing these interconnected challenges – from identifying needs and developing strategies to preparing investments and supporting implementation.

Different Countries, Different Challenges

The diversity of MC’s work is reflected in its international project portfolio. While transport priorities vary considerably between countries, each assignment requires an in-depth understanding of local conditions, institutional frameworks, and the broader economic and social context.

International financing institutions play an important role in supporting transport infrastructure and institutional development worldwide. MC contributes to such programmes by combining technical expertise with strategic advisory services, investment preparation, environmental and social assessments, and institutional support.

In the Kingdom of Bhutan, MC supported the World Bank in preparing a national road safety strategy and action plan, helping identify priorities for reducing road fatalities and strengthening road safety management. In Vietnam, the company assisted the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in preparing the next phase of Hanoi’s metro expansion, providing expertise in project preparation, procurement, and risk management. In Moldova, MC worked alongside international partners on the preparation of a €344 million EBRD-financed road infrastructure investment, contributing environmental and social assessments and road safety audits for two strategic transport corridors.

The company’s international experience also extends to railway modernisation in Turkmenistan, port infrastructure planning in the Seychelles, institutional road safety capacity building in the Kyrgyz Republic – just a few examples from MC’s extensive portfolio of more than 320 projects delivered worldwide.

Beyond major international assignments, MC also delivers more focused technical projects, particularly in Lithuania, where traffic modeling and mobility analysis are becoming increasingly important tools for transport planning and infrastructure development.

At the other end of the scale, MC participates in large European research & innovation initiatives, bringing together international consortia to develop and test new transport solutions. One example is the digitalisation of freight transport through electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI), where MC contributes to developing common European frameworks for digital data exchange and supports knowledge transfer to neighbouring regions.

Across these different assignments, a common principle connects MC’s work: effective transport solutions must respond to local needs while drawing on international experience, sound analysis, and practical implementation approaches.

Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter of Mobility

The coming years are likely to bring significant changes to the transport sector. Artificial intelligence and advanced data analytics are opening new possibilities for transport planning, infrastructure management, and decision-making.

At the same time, climate change, geopolitical uncertainty, and growing pressure on public budgets are placing greater emphasis on the resilience and sustainability of transport systems. Governments and transport operators increasingly need to prepare for disruptions, adapt infrastructure to changing conditions, strengthen institutional capacities, and ensure that limited investment resources are used effectively.

These developments create new demands for specialised expertise that connects technology and infrastructure with policy, governance, financing, and institutional development.

For MC, the next chapter will focus on strengthening its international team, expanding its services into new markets, and building on its established expertise while developing new areas of competence. Transport resilience and climate adaptation, institutional transformation, and integrated advisory services for public authorities and transport operators represent important opportunities for future development.

“Our ambition for the coming years is to continue growing without losing what has always defined MC Mobility Consultants – our expertise, flexibility, and close cooperation with clients and partners. We see many opportunities ahead, and we want to keep building a team that is capable of turning challenges into valuable solutions,” – Egidijus Skrodenis, Partner & CEO of MC Baltics.

15 years after its foundation, MC Mobility Consultants continues to build on the same principle that shaped its beginnings: bringing together international expertise, practical experience, and strong partnerships to address complex transport challenges.

As mobility systems evolve, the company’s commitment remains to support safer, more sustainable, resilient, and efficient transport – creating lasting value for clients, communities, and economies worldwide.
